After a whole day of papers and posters and a tour of the Macquarie dictionary on the first day, we went to "The Middle of Nowhere". Most of us were baffled by "alternate serving" - an Australian addition to the hospitality industry. It basically meant that your neighbours always got what you really wanted to eat... :-) The desert was self-service, though, and that's when the following pictures were taken:

Jan Svartvik and Graeme Kennedy Robert Sigley, Vincent Ooi and Maurizio Gotti Petek Kurtboke, Oksana Gerwe and Adam Smith

Christian Mair, Norbert Schlüter and Hans Martin Lehmann Hans Martin Lehmann and Christian Mair Matti Rissanen, his wife and Pam Peters

Koichi Sato, Hong Liang Qiao and Nick Smith Roberta Facchinetti (don't you agree that the pictures of her get better every year?)

On Sunday afternoon, the traditional ICAME boat-ride took place. We were taken by coach to Manly, from where we took the ferry across the beautiful Sydney harbour to Circular Quay.

After leaving the ferry, we split up in three groups and went on a walking tour of the Rocks.

Lunch was always at Dunmore Lang College - which is also where a number of the conference participants stayed. Apart from its pleasant eating-area (here with Gerhard Leitner, Ilka Mindt, Joe Trotta and Nick Smith), the "residents" will also remember the (false) fire alarm which meant that all of us had to get out of the house into the cold at 2 am while the tutors in charge of the building remained in the (heated) building :-)

This year's grand gala was held at Curzon Hall, a rather impressive building near the Macquarie campus - and a fitting location for the occasion. Yes, it was "alternate serving" again, but this time, we were better prepared....
